The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting's national honor society. The Boy Scout Handbook says about OA: "It sets out to recognize those youth and adult campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives, to develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit, to promote Scout camping, and to crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others."
To be eligible for membership in the OA, a Scout must have attained the rank of First Class, must have camped 15 days and nights in the past 2 years (including a 6-day/5-night campout). He then must be elected by the members of his troop, and complete a weekend Ordeal, his induction into the Order of the Arrow.
